Your piece is wrapped by hand around a raw, untreated stone. It is sturdier than it looks, but a little care goes a long way. Here is how to keep it happy.

Wearing

Raw stones can be soft — muscovite, for example, sits around 2–2.5 on the Mohs scale, softer than a fingernail is long. Put your piece on last, after perfume and sunscreen, and take it off before hard work, gardening, the gym, or sleep. Avoid knocking it against hard surfaces.

Water and chemicals

Keep your piece dry. Remove it before swimming, showering, or washing up, and keep it away from perfume, hairspray, and cleaning products. Water and chemicals can dull both the stone and the wire over time.

Storing

Store your piece in the pouch it arrived in, somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Keeping pieces separate stops harder stones from scratching softer ones.

Cleaning the wire

The wire can be gently polished with a soft, dry cloth — the kind you would use for glasses. Do not use dips, pastes, or polishing cloths treated with cleaner, as they can mark the stone.

Re-cleansing your piece

Stones are said to hold the energy they encounter. If your piece feels heavy or flat, you can cleanse it again the way we do: rest it under the light of the full moon overnight, or pass it through smoke (a little sage or incense) or sound (a bell or singing bowl). Dry methods only — no water, no salt.
